Checklist and mistakes

One page to run through before every trade, and the habits that cost traders the most.

Pre-trade checklist

  1. □Higher timeframe cycle points my way.
  2. □Higher timeframe grade is Developing or better, and steady for full size.
  3. □My entry type matches the setup and the grade.
  4. □The trigger bar has closed. I am not acting on a wick or an unfinished bar.
  5. □FLD target points the same way as the cycle wave.
  6. □Target is due before, or around, the next cycle peak.
  7. □Stop is beyond the trough the target is measured from.
  8. □Reward:risk to the target is at least 1:1.
  9. □Position size fits my risk per trade.
  10. □I know where I take profit, where the runner exits, and when the time stop hits.

Rule. If any box is empty, the trade waits.

MistakeInstead
Trading against the higher timeframeTake only the direction the timeframe above allows.
Entering on a wickOnly closes count. Wait for the bar to finish.

Full size at the cycle turnEarliest entry, smallest size.
Ignoring a Low confidence gradeLean on a higher timeframe or wait.
Chasing after the target is mostly doneIf less than half the move is left, wait for the next setup.
Moving the stop further awayExit and wait for the next crossing.
Reading projected dates as exactDates are windows. Price confirms.

Keep a trade journal

Write down every trade, taken or skipped. After twenty or so you will see which entries suit you.

  • Market, timeframe and date.
  • Higher timeframe direction and grade.
  • Entry type, grade and size.
  • Entry, stop, FLD target and peak window.
  • What happened and how you exited.
  • One thing to repeat or avoid.
